Main routes in and around Bozeman

• Interstate 90 (I-90) passes through Bozeman, heading north-west towards Washington State and Seattle, and south-east to Wyoming and South Dakota.

• Highway 86 (MT 86) heads north-east from Downtown Bozeman towards the Bridger Range, including Sacagawea Peak and Bridger Bowl Ski Area.

Bozeman to Sacagawea Peak

Sacagawea is the highest peak in the Bridger Range and only 30 miles from Downtown Bozeman. Take the MT-86 north to reach the foot of the mountain in around an hour.

Bozeman to Yellowstone National Park

The gateway to Yellowstone National Park is in Montana, around an hour-and-a-half’s drive from Bozeman. Take the US-191 or US-89 south to discover the world’s largest assortment of natural springs.

To get there from Downtown:

1. Turn left on North Wallace Avenue from Main Street.
2. Continue onto L Street and Story Mill Road.
3. Turn right onto MT-86 North.
4. Take a left onto Bridger Bowl Road.
5. Continue straight until you reach the ski area.

Museum of the Rockies

Something of a Bozeman institution, the Museum of the Rockies has one of the best collections of prehistoric fossils in the world – including a T-Rex skeleton. You’ll also find a Yellowstone Country exhibit and a planetarium offering various shows looking at the cosmos, not to mention a photo archive and fine art collections to view.

Palisade Falls

Located around 45 minutes’ drive from Bozeman, Palisade Falls offers a peaceful and secluded natural spot. A 1.2-mile trail takes you through the dense forestry to the 80-foot waterfall at the base of Palisade Mountain. Bring a picnic to enjoy lunch beside the roaring ‘cataract’ waters, or carry on to tackle the mountain summit for spectacular views of the range.
