Heading back toward the 96,000-acre freshwater lake and you’ll find Utah Lake State Park .

Head three hours along US-6 E, I-70 E and US-191 S to reach Moab – gateway to Arches National Park, first of the Mighty Five.
This red-rock utopia is nestled next to the famous Colorado River and features more than 2,000 sandstone arches.
Challenge yourself on hiking or biking trails to explore these stunning natural structures, like the iconic 52-foot-tall Delicate Arch and the Double Arch – seen in the opening of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
Pitch up at the Devil’s Garden Campground for the evening, to marvel at the International Dark Sky Park after nightfall.

Continue 30 minutes west, via UT-313 to experience the Island in the Sky drive through Canyonlands National Park.
This popular route is perhaps Utah’s most astonishing and features several dedicated pullover points.
Park up to pause and admire views of the vast canyons that zigzag through the landscape.
Finish up your Canyonlands adventure at the Mesa Arch, on the eastern edge of the Island and enjoy a sensational sandstone sunset.

Your Utah road trip continues on UT-24 towards the state’s south-central desert – midway point through the Big Five.
Journey to the center of Capitol Reef National Park, where the highway crosses Waterpocket Fold – a 100-mile wrinkle in the landscape.
Enjoy a spellbinding drive or walk up to the Golden Throne, a 7,041-foot sandstone mountain that is part of the fold.
You can then park up and gaze down upon the magnificent buckle from an unforgettable vantage point.

Arrive at Sunset Point for breathtaking panoramas that overlook fascinating hoodoos, after a two-hour drive west via UT-24 and UT-62.
Some of the highlights of Bryce Canyon are the 1.5-mile Navajo Loop Trail, which takes you to the fascinating depths of Bryce Canyon, and the 1.8-mile Queens Garden Trail.
Feeling energetic? Why not loop around both and take in the stunning sights along the way. After soaking up special views of the park, kick back at The Lodge at Bryce Canyon.

Leave Bryce Canyon via the US-89 S towards Zion National Park.
This majestic gateway to the park cuts through the cliffs and provides an unforgettable finale to your trip.
Zion is bountiful with walking options. The Emerald Pools Trail and the challenging Narrows Hike are popular – the launchpad for the latter is the Temple of Sinawava, a grand sandstone amphitheater.
